Default Why dont they make a Dwarve Profession?!

Why dont they? I would like to see it in the future. Maybe because it would be similar to the warrior profession.

Or maybe because dwarves are a race not a job. You can't grow up and become a dwarf.

I don't wana be a dwarf! I'm going to grow up to be a bird! Wait.... /sarcasm

Ya, I agree though, if there are dwarves, they should be a race, or some special money sink that magically changes your characters to dwarves or something. And of course if they added dwarves, they would need other things like tengu, and bulls like the bull henchie from nightfall. (it is a bull right? I remeber some post that described the PC gamer nightfall article and the henchies in it....)

Youd have to grow down to become a dwarf surely.

There are Dwarves in this game, as Strobo said, they are a race and not a profession, check them out in the Shiverpeaks.

The idea of playing as different races has been suggested (and shot down) many times before.

I'm pretty sure the OP wants the Dwarves to be a playable profession. They would have increased strength strength and stamina. Though they would move slower because of their shorter stride. They would also have a greater natural resistance to magic than most professions.

The dwarven soldiers would wield huge hammers, battlepicks and short handled double bladed axes. The "good" dwarves would have a strong dislike of magic and magic-users. They would also think anyone that uses a ranged weapon is just afraid to get into the thick of a battle.

They would be stubborn, ornery and they would often reminisce about dwarven ale. They would dwell in mountains areas or in huge labyrinthine caverns that they had carved into the rock.

I think Dwarfs would make a great profession.

I wouldn't like there to be different races to choose from in Guild Wars, to me, it'd just feel too much like WoW.

It would still be exactly like Guild Wars, just with Dwarves as an additional playable race.

As long as playing style is the same, it shouldn't matter if there are other playable races. It would be sort of like a short stocky sturdy warrior. With a beard.

Having races in Guild Wars would be nifty, however the preconceived notion that certain races would have certain bonuses and drawbacks is why Guild Wars can't have races, unless purely for aesthetic purposes, inwhich case read my first 8 words again. Also, the lore of Guild Wars couldn't allow racial differences, stemming from Prophecies.

I would rather have a wider spectrum of heights/weights on our creation screen, as opposed to making a 'dwarf' or an 'elf'. An obese midget...now that's the ticket

Um, nope. This isn't WoW or anything like that. Both the Stone Summit and the Deldrimor dwarves use magic just as extensively as humans, and in fact they seem to use more bows than, say, Ascalonian soldiers.

As for being stubborn and ornery, the Stone Summit take this to an extreme, but the Deldrimor dwarves seem friendly and hospitable.

As a writer who does SF/Fantasy, I can tell you, it can be surprisingly hard to break stereotypes for non-existent races! For example, I will tell you that in a series of stories I've been working on, dwarves are the sworn enemy of man, worship a God who's evil through-and-through, and with him, they make Hitler and the nazis look like decent folks. Oh, and they use magic all the time (why would a 3'6" dwarf want to go hand-to-hand with a 5'10" man?)! But I fully expect that to make some fantasy fans scratch their heads.

All these fantasy races are based off of LOTR, which is in turn based off of Germanic mythology, but over the past few decades, there has been a remarkable amount of variation in ideas based on the ones Tolkien put forward.

Anyway, as for races in Guild Wars, I agree that it's a bad idea, unless it is purely aesthetic. Even then, how to make sense of it? What would dwarves, tengu, etc. be doing in the human-ruled towns where GW chapters always start? They might be visiting, but there would only be a few, and they likely wouldn't be concerned, because as far as I can tell, each race in GW tends to let the others deal with their own problems, and doesn't get involved unless it becomes their problem too. Even then, they stay in their own areas. Except Talon Silverwing, but there's only one of him.

anet have a human only policy I believe
and hey if you want a dwarf so bad I got a great idea when you make you character right....come on this is gonna be great.....just make him short as humanly possible. u_u

and a dwarf is a race not a profession.
